Health coaching… What the hell is that?

Heard of a team coach, a business coach and a sports coach but wondering what on earth does a health coach do? It’s kinda the same thing but for health, based in positive psychology and draws on various other psychology frameworks.

Think back to the last time you tried something new or made a change. Maybe it was trying a new diet, giving something up or starting a new exercise program….now think about who you did it with? Could you have done the same thing without that person?

We often need support to help us change something up. As humans we’re social beings so doing things on our own can feel scary or difficult, or we feel like we need someone to be accountable to. This, in a nutshell, is what a health & wellbeing coach does.

As a health coach I’m not here to tell you how to be healthier or put over zealous demands on you. It’s not about writing you a fitness plan, or giving you strict actions to follow. I’m here to help you find your own way with whatever change it is you’d like to make. Your approach, your rules, your timings.

As individuals our needs are different. Health isn’t just about eating well. It encompasses aspects of mental, physical and emotional wellbeing; environment, relationships, self-belief and work. We might need support in one or multiple areas, or approach the same need from different angles and what motivates one person won’t motivate the other. Which is why you should be in charge of how you go about your change. A health coach will help you work that out, think through what might get in the way and plan for those challenges ahead of time so you can deal with them when they inevitably come along.

That’s it. We’re your coach, your ally, your buddy, your support, your biggest cheerleader and your challenger. We’re focused on helping you succeed in becoming a healthier version of you. Whatever that might be.
